Mastodon Bones & Shiprock

These exposed Mastodon bones can be found in a cave northwest of Khobar. Mastodon is a small elephant-like creature (see image below).

Nearby is the ionic Shiprock with a cave that leads to ancient fortifications on top of the jebel. From the west side, crawl to the sink hole, then climb up to explore archeological remains on top of the jebel. This and similar sites in the area were used for centuries for locals to escape raids from enemies.

Find them northwest of Khobar, Dammam and Dhahran off road from Highway 75 that runs from Judah in the south to Nariyah in the north. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is required.
